The app

Signing in

You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with an email address and password. All three are equal — an account made with one cannot currently be reached with another, so use the one you started with. If you have forgotten your password, choose “Forgot password” on the sign-in screen. For your safety the reply is the same whether or not an account exists, so check your inbox before writing to us.

Pairing with your partner

One of you starts the year and gets a four-character code. The other enters it, or opens the invitation link. The code is not case sensitive and never contains the letters I or O or the digits one or zero, so if you are reading it off a screen those characters are something else.

A code lasts forty-eight hours. If yours has expired, the partner who started the year can produce a new one from the waiting screen. If the app says a code has already been used and neither of you is paired, write to us.

Notifications

There is one switch, in Settings, and it controls both the daily reminder and the nudge to finish a session you left open. If the switch is on and nothing arrives, check that notifications are permitted for One Step Closer in your device settings — turning them off there overrides the app.

Deleting your account

Settings → Delete account. It is permanent, and it cannot be undone. Before you do it, read section eight of the privacy policy: if you have a partner, the year you made together is theirs as well, and it is not destroyed when you leave. If the deletion fails, write to us and we will do it by hand.

A photo you cannot recover

Photos are encrypted on your phone and we cannot read them, which also means we cannot restore them. If you have signed in on a new phone, ask your partner to approve the restore from inside the app — that is the only route, and it works only while one of you still has the key.

Orders

The store is not open yet. The game arrives in January, and the waitlist on the front page is how you will hear about it first.

If you have a question about an order once the store opens — where it is, a return, or something that arrived damaged — use the form above and choose “An order”. Have your order number to hand if you have one.
